ADVENTURE RIVERS IN SALTA
One of the recently discovered circuits for travellers is the one entering two almost inaccessible rivers of the cloud forests of Salta: The Colorado and the Pescado Rivers, tributaries of the Río Bermejo River.
After a less than 20-minute helicopter flight, one arrives at its first destination, in the Río Colorado River's catch basin area, almost on the limits of the Jujuy Province. Many birds live at this altitude such as turkey buzzards, cranes, and colourful toucans. Its waters also hold an exotic fish that was introduced 24 years ago: the rainbow trout.
The Río Colorado River has the typical mountain course characteristics: it runs fast, drags logs and stones during the rainy season (December through March), and its waters are fresh and very clean during the rest of the year.
The vegetation on its banks, separated from the river course itself by a wide river gravel bottom is comprised by an ample gamut of trees, bushes, creepers and epiphytes.
The landscape remains as it was created. Travellers must arrive accompanied by an expert guide.
From the Rio Colorado River, it takes another 20 minutes to fly by helicopter to the Río Pescado River, that owes its name (pescado means fish) to the abundant fishing fauna that inhabits it, among which the dorados, shads and bream stand out.
The Rio Pescado River has warmer waters than its neighbouring rivers, and downstream from the El Agosto spot, it no longer runs encased; moreover, its rounded stone beaches allows an easy walk by the shore in search of the best landscapes.
Few people know this Salta region, which is usually known and famous for its southern valleys or its capital. The conjunction of mountains, forest, transparent water rivers and dozens of flora and fauna species, invite the traveller not to delay a soon visit.
