Jujuy Adventure Travel & Tours ...
In the Province of Jujuy the traveller will have the opportunity to visit two National Parks with totally different characteristics: The Parque Nacional Calilegua and the Parque Nacional Laguna de Pozuelos.
The Parque Nacional Calilegua, with an area of 76,000 hectares, is found in the area of the Yungas or Subtropical Mountain Forest, close to the village of Calilegua. Characterised by its thick vegetation, this Park has transitional forests up to 400 m.a.s.l., and further uphill, mountain forests that at 2,500 metres turn into an extensive Andean plain.
At an altitude of 1.700 metres, within the forest itself, you will find plentiful stands of Tipas (Tipuana tipu), Pacarás, white and yellow woods, and a bit further up starts the cloud forest, covered with clouds in the summer and the start of autumn, and where species of bush, tangle woods and lianas mix with cedars, laurel, cebils and cinchona trees, amongst others.
Its wildlife includes red agouti, red squirrels, honey bears, pumas, tayras, tapirs and the jaguarundi, amongst others. There is also many species of birds and in the highlands you will be able to sight the majestic condors.
The Parque Nacional Laguna de Pozuelos, on the other hand, has an extension that covers parts of the Departments of Yavi, Santa Catalina and Rinconada, up in the Puna highlands. Its area covers 180,000 hectares. It is centre around The Laguna de Pozuelos Lake, a mirror of water surrounded by a high plateau of short grasses and dry ground.
Its principal attraction is its aquatic bird life, especially the pink flamingos, which share the habitat with different species of ducks, teros, gordillos and guayatas.
