HORSEBACK RIDING IN ARGENTINA
Those wishing to live a different experience, can choose a horseback ride through the varied topography of the Republic of Argentina and travel across mountains, woods, beaches or streams, enjoying beautiful moments with their families.
The ideal way of realizing this activity is by hiring local expert guides, and mounting docile criollo horses, totally used to transporting people along the various circuits.
You do not need to be a cowboy to enjoy a short horseback ride; to pet your horse and grab the reins, a quick theoretical chat with the guide will do. It is advisable to have some previous experience when the excursions last for one or more days, to prevent being exhausted by the end of the journey.
When hiring these kinds of rides, it is always safe to verify the quality and conditions of the mounting gear. It is best to use big saddles and long stirrups when climbing slopes, while a simple and well-secured gear is good enough if you wish to enjoy a safe expedition through the plains.
Horseback rides have no considerable grade of difficulty, nor have sex, age or physical condition restrictions; a wish to contemplate the Argentinean scenery in a different way is all that is needed.

For example, you can choose a tour to the Mendoza foothills in the El Challao area, wherein San Isidro is one of the favourite places for this activity. This is a mountainous landscape that exhibits a very particular beauty.
Another riding route, for about two and a half hours across the Mendoza foothills covers the cisterns (aljibes) from the Huarpe Pre-Colombian settlements. You will feel the magnificence of the landscape and get in full contact with nature. The return is made through beautiful gorges.
Another route consists in riding a horse to the Laguna del Diamante Lake. This tour starts from the Tierras Blancas Country House, in the San Carlos Department. It turns out to be an unforgettable adventure.
In each of these visits you'll enjoy the wonderful beefsteak and spirituous glasses of wine.
Salta Adventure Travel & Tours ...
The horse is an ideal means for travellers wishing to know those wild and craggy spaces of the Salta geography, where motor vehicles simply cannot get. It allows a more direct contact with nature, and therefore the chance to live a unique experience.
Intense and unforgettable, horseback rides are an attractive alternative for being original and pleasant. It is a hard, dense and transcendent activity that can be realized by men and women alike, and any person from six to ninety years of age, who is in good shape.
There are journeys of different lengths; the ones lasting half to one day (San Lorenzo and Coronel Moldes) are meant for beginners and both places invite to enjoy them in a different way. The journeys lasting longer than one day (three or four at least), through the Guachipa or the del Toro ravines, introduce travellers into a totally different experience.
The most daring adventurers, however, can choose a circuit going through the Campo Quijano or the Calchaquí Valleys. In any case, this is an activity with controlled risks. Sitting on the back of beautiful horses, travellers will discover incredible valleys with seemingly impenetrable forests, crystalline rivers followed by deserts with multicoloured mountains.
At 3000 metres above sea level, riders will be under the intent look of the Andean condor; they will see the monumental cacti and the red soil; and after sunset, the southern hemisphere's stars will fill the sky.
During the quiet nights, a fire, guitars and a warm round of mate in the mountain shelters will create an ideal mood for making new friends. During the entire trip, there is the chance to know about the puesteros (postmen), heirs of the ancient Incas, their culture and their way of life in the mountains.
This activity is better practiced during the southern hemisphere's winter, for there are no rains and there is a steadier weather; during the southern hemisphere's summer, however, this meteorological phenomenon adds to the adventure, without feeling the cold. Hence, all that is needed is a good impermeable raincoat.
Experimented guides, who know each and every corner of the province as well as they know their horses, can be found at Salta. Rides are organized all year long and are meant for people of all ages. There are three difficulty levels for the circuits: easy, medium and almost impassable.
THE PUERTA DEL CIELO CIRCUIT
The interesting thing about this trip is that the different landscapes of the province can be appreciated. From the green of the forest all over the Lerma valley, with up to 20 metre high trees, to the cacti area zone with its colourful mountains in the Calchaquí Valley.
Another attraction on this trip is that all nights are spent at posts, which are none other than the houses of the people living in the mountains. Thus it becomes an excellent chance to get to share experiences with the locals.

The zone's weather conditions allow the tranquil practice of this activity throughout the year.
