An activity to test the traveller's nerve is, undoubtedly, rafting, which allows the negotiation of the Salta river rapids above rubber boats (rafts) or kayaks. It is a unique experience, one in which rookies as well as experts can participate.
It is a four-hour duration circuit, and it is practiced on the Río Juramento canyon, with scenery that includes a magnificent landscape and dinosaur tracks.
The rafts have a 2, 6, 8 and 10 person capacity. The descent can also be achieved by kayak for the boldest adventurers. The Río Juramento River has class 2 and 3 rapids, which means medium class, with two alternative routes.
They both start at the spot known as Peñas Blancas, a leveller dike at Cabra Corral (70 kilometres south of the city of Salta)
The first one offers a short 15 kilometres and two hour-long journey down to Los Lapachos. The second one is a 35 kilometre five hour-long drive down to the La Troja landing. In either case, the authorized operators offer the round trip to the place (optional), all the necessary gear and in some cases a snack as well.
