Useful Information

CLIMATE
Buenos Aires' climate is good all year round. The mean annual temperature of 18º Celsius makes very hot or very cold days extremely rare, enabling one to stroll through the city at any time of year.
Summer: From end December through March. The maximum average temperature is over 25º Celsius with humid heat almost every day. Mornings are warm and midday and early afternoon are warmer still. At night the temperature goes down slightly. In general the weather at night is very pleasant for taking walks.
Fall (Autumn): April through June. The weather is pleasant, with cool nights; days are bright with a clear blue sky, and little rainfall from May onwards (up to end August).
Winter: July through September. The minimum average temperature is 8° Celsius. Winters are mild and frosts are rare. It is moderately cold during the day, with a considerable drop of temperature at night. Night falls around 6 p.m.
Spring: October through December. The climate is variable, with more wind and rainfall, and longer days with warmer temperatures. December is a warmer and more humid month, with longer days, night falling around 9 p.m.
On sunny days in fall and spring, the mornings are cool and temperatures rise to a pleasant warmth at midday, going down again at night.

WE RECOMMEND
  • The coolest time is mid-June to mid-August. Although there are almost never any frosts, you have to wear a woolen coat, anorak or overcoat and a scarf.
  • In summer you can wear cool light clothing, and you don't need any coat.
  • In fall and spring it is wise to carry an umbrella or raincoat. The rainiest months are October, November, March and April, in that order.
WHAT TO TAKE ALONG
It is a good idea to take along all kinds of clothing, as during winter there are sudden changes in temperature, and in summer it can go over 35ºCelsius. Pack light clothing, wraps, sunglasses, sunscreen and mosquito repellent.

HEALTH
There are no endemic diseases, so no special vaccines are required for entry. Argentina is free from foot and mouth disease, so eating beef is safe. Shellfish consumption is seasonally restricted because of the "red tide", a phenomenon whose occasional presence is announced on the media.

WATER
The tap water is drinkable and absolutely pure.

TRADITIONAL GASTRONOMY
Argentina's cuisine is highly varied, and its typical dishes are: Beef barbecue, ensaimada, carbonada, locro, regional empanadas (a kind of meat pie or pasty), tamales, etc. You should sample classical items such as grilled meat or crafted pasta. The most traditional beverage of course is "mate", available everywhere, and especially on visits to our numerous estancias (ranch-houses) provided with tourist services. Lastly, you should definitely sample the exquisite "dulce de leche" (caramel cream), a purely Argentine invention.

Restaurants during your trip:
In Buenos Aires: International, vegetarian and local food restaurants.
