LAND TRANSPORTATION

NATIONAL DESTINATIONS

TRAINS
The train is a good means of transportation to go outside the city limits. Railroads bound for the northern localities set off from Retiro Station, those bound for the southern localities do so from Constitution Station, railroads leading to the northwest set out from Federico Lacroze Station, and those leading to the southwest departure from Once Station. The national railway system is regarded as the largest in the world with 43000 km.

Argentina's railway system does not represent an important means of transportation in the country. The trains do not run that often and do not have many destinations; they are not so comfortable either.

The most used routes are those connecting Buenos Aires with Mar del Plata and Bariloche. Train tariffs are usually economic; however, it is convenient to purchase your tickets with three-day anticipation, and two weeks in advance if it is summer. It is advisable to arrive in the station a prudent time before the train's departure time.

Besides, there is an especial tour called Train to the Clouds that goes across beautiful places in the Cordillera of Los Andes.

There are three classes:
air conditioner, and first and second classes. There are dining cars on first class, along with bed cars for night trips. The main routes departing from Buenos Aires are the following: Buenos Aires - Rosario (with a connection leading to Tucuman and Jujuy passing through Cordoba, and a second connection leading to Tucuman and Jujuy passing through La Banda); Buenos Aires - Rojas; Buenos Aires - Santa Rosa; Buenos Aires - Mar del Plata; Buenos Aires - Las Flores - Quequen Necochea; and Buenos Aires - Bahia Blanca (with a connection bound for San Carlos de Bariloche).

Especial rates:
passengers can travel as much as they want in first class with the Argenpass, for the period stipulated on the pass, which can be of 30, 60 or 90 days. It is only sold in Argentina, at the train reservation offices. An extra fee is charged for the use of the bed cars. The passes must begin to be used within 30 days after they have been acquired, and they are good from the first day of use up till midnight on the last day.

Tickets at reduced prices Group Pass: it offers a 10 to 25% percent discount for groups of between 10 and 25 persons; Familiar Pass: 25% discount for parents with two children; Youth Pass: 25% discount for individuals under 30 years of age; Senior Pass: 25% discount for women over 55 years and men over 60 years of age; and Student Pass: 25% discount for students.

TRAIN (Federal Capital and Great Buenos Aires)
The train is an adequate means of transportation to move around the capital and the most convenient to reach the Great Buenos Aires. The tariff is variable and is cancelled at the corresponding stations, and varies according to the extension of the trip.
