5.- The Luis Viale Statue
It is a monument located in the promenade. It recalls the bravery and iron will of a passenger, entrepreneur Luis Viale, who sacrificed his life in the shipwreck of the steamboat America, which occurred in the waters of the Rio de la Plata River at the end of the 19th century. Viale spontaneously handed over his lifebelt to Mrs. De Marco del Pont, who was pregnant. The statue shows the figure of this man holding a lifebelt with his right hand in a willing to help attitude.
6.- The Museo de Telecomunicaciones Museum
Serving as such since 1980, its interior displays the different equipments related to the art of telecommunications, from telegraphy to the appearance of the Internet. The exterior of the edifice, built in the year 1927, is a combination of Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles. It is located on Avenida de los Italianos 851, Costanera Sur, in an area surrounded by parks. It opens Saturdays and Sundays from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Guided tours start at 3:00 PM. It usually remains closed through January. Tel. 4968-3112/3.
7.- The Antena Monumental Antena
It is a homage to the visit of the Italian prince Umberto de Saboya, who arrived in Argentina in the year 1924. It is a mast made by the sculptor Castiglioni. It was decorated with bronze figures and inscriptions both in Latin and Italian to be inaugurated three years later. It is placed in the small square guarded by the Avenidas Intendente Carlos M. Noel Avenue and Italianos, facing the Telecommunications' Museum.
8.- The Fuente de las Nereidas Fountain
This magnificent Sea Nymphs Fountain, located on the Costanera Sur, was made by the Tucumán sculptress Lola Mora (1877-1936). Donated by the author and inaugurated in the year 1903, it was criticized by the Porteño upper classes of her time since it was unconceivable that could have made a sculpture with that many nude figures. However, it was later praised for what it represented and installed in 1918, near the so-called old jetty on the Avenida Dr. Tristan Achaval Rodriguez. Sculpted out of Carrara marble, the main scene depicts the goddess Venus emerging from the ocean accompanied by a retinue of Nereids and Tritons sustaining her. It has been declared a National Historic Monument.
9.- The Museo de Calcos y Escultura Comparada - the Copy
and Compared Sculpture Museum
A copy is an exact reproduction in plaster or any other soft material of an original model. In this museum, unique in South America, you will find an important sample collection of copies of original masterpieces from The Louvre in Paris, The Glyptotheque in Munich, The British Museum in London as well as from a number of other well known institutions. It was opened in the year 1928. It is located on Avenida Dr. Tristan Achaval Rodriguez 1701 Avenue, where the Avenidas España and E. R. de Dellepiane come together . Its doors are open to the public during weekends from 2:00 PM to 5:30 PM.
10. - The Monumento Plus Ultra Monument
It is located in the old jetty and is a flashy winged bronze figure. It is the work of the Spaniard Jose Lorda to commemorate the feat of the triumphant flight made by hydroplane Plus Ultra, which successfully crossed the Atlantic Ocean from the city of Madrid, in Spain, all the way to the city of Buenos Aires, in the year 1926.
11. - The Parque Natural y Reserva Ecológica Costanera Sur
Natural Park and Ecological Reserve
The origin of this huge park and reserve is due to the land fillings made to gain land over the river in the year 1970. It has an interpretation centre and a tour where, through different paths, an interesting variety of vegetal and animal species can be observed in a setting that somehow reproduces the ecological habitat, characteristic of the coastal area of Rio de la Plata river.
There is a variety of flora and fauna in this enormous reserve. Lagoons, flooded areas, pastures, weeds, willows, alders, poplars, ducks, cranes, lizards, thrushes and frigate birds, among more than a hundred species.
There are three extensive lagoons that stand out in this ecological reserve called: Laguna de las Gaviotas, surrounded by the Paths called the Senderos del Medio- or of the Middle, de los Alisos or of the Alders and de Los Lagartos or of the Lizards; la Laguna de los Patos or Ducks' Lagoon, surrounded by the Senderos de los Lagartos or of the Lizards, de los Plumerillos or of the red-flowered Mimosa; and the Lake of the Coipus and the Costanera Sur Boulevard.
The Playa Recreo (Recreation Beach) is located between the Alders and Willows Paths.
The ecological reserve offers different interior tracks and leisure and relaxation spaces, picnic benches and interesting vantage points for sightseeing. It is perfectly taken care of and assisted by park guards belonging to Argentinean Wildlife Foundation, protecting since 1986 the typical flora and fauna found in its 350 hectares.
Visiting hours run from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Mondays through Fridays (during Southern Hemisphere's summer it remains open until 7:00 PM) Saturdays and Sundays there are guided tours from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM. New and Full Moon hikes are specially recommended, starting at 8:30 PM the former and at 8:00 PM the latter.
The park borders almost all of the Costanera Avenue, the Avenida Dr. Tristan A. Rodriguez Avenue and its continuation, called the Avenida Intendente Carlos M. Noel Avenue, that constitute part of Costanera Sur. Entrance is through Avenida Tristan A. Rodriguez 1550 Avenue. Tel. 4315-1320.
12. - The Porteño Building
It is a 25 naves and 15,500 square metres recycled building constructed between Dike 2 and the present time Micaela Bastidas Park, in the year 1902. It has been declared a Historic Heritage Site of the city. At first the building was used as a silo (grain storage), built in beginning of the XXth century English industrial architectural style, distinguished by its brick pilasters and cornices. This structure was transformed into 79 classy apartments, a spa hotel, a disco and an art gallery.
13. - The "El Sueño de la Esfera" - "The Dream of the Sphere"

Sculpture Eduardo Pla's sculpture named "El Sueño de la Esfera" (The Dream of the Sphere), unique in its kind and completely
covered with neon lights, is the first luminous sculpture in Buenos Aires.
It is located in the crossing of the Streets of Olga Cossenttini and Manuela Saenz, facing the Conventions Centre's doors at the Puerto Madero Hilton Hotel.
14. - The Buenos Aires Casino
For those who are attracted by gambling, this barrio neighbourhood has a casino called Buenos Aires, opened 24/7, aboard a steamboat similar to those that used to travel through the Mississippi river in the United States. The majestic casino, located at just five minutes from downtown, has roulettes, black jack, poker, dice and slot machines; in addition it has free of charge valet parking areas. If a visitor wishes to do so, he can also enjoy an exquisite dinner at the boat's restaurant, called "Sobre Aguas" (Over Waters). 15. - The Costanera Sur
This recently reconstructed zone is a traditional and amusing boulevard. During weekends there are craftsmanship open fairs and performances by street. The traditional choripán (sausage sandwich) trolleys are found here, as well as several other food stands. On Costanera Sur, on the banks of the Rio de la Plata River.
16.- The Ex Gran Hotel de Inmigrantes - Former Immigrants Grand Hotel. Northern Basin
Centre of a complex that was destined to the reception of immigrants during the first half of the XXth century. Nowadays it can be visited as a museum.
