CORDOBA

CANDONGA

The country house of Rosario de Santa Gertrudis allows the tourist travelling across a part of the colonial spirit of Córdoba through episodes of conquer and evangelisation. The Chapel of Candonga stands as a token of times, formerly built around 1730 as a room for prayer within the house facilities, it was declared National Historical Monument in the year of 1941.

The Estancia de Candonga also shelters other buildings and objects linked to the history of Córdoba. It is situated by the old route to the Alto Perú, a remainder of the mercantile development achieved by the region circa the late 17th century and the early 18th century.

In the present days an experimental integral and organic farm is developed here, with a settlement for preservation and respect to the laws of nature as well as to the environment itself.

What to Visit

Historical Candonga
This tour goes by the oldest edifices of the Santa Gertrudis ranch: the chapel, the old farmyards, the bakery, the flour mill and the grinding stones.

Natural Candonga
This feature of Candonga presents an organic orchard, an ecological plant for the treatment of liquid residues, solar energy powered devices and the measuring of temperatures and winds. This tour offers a day long visit with the proper guidance, whose programming are able to be changed in order to fit the nature of the group. Another exciting option consists in an hour-and-a-half long horse ride through a highlander circuit, with the company of a well experienced guide. The tour ends up with a lunch. Previous reservations required to apply for every one of this circuits.

How to Come
By Provincial Route E-53. Starting at the City of Córdoba, and keeping a Northward direction after going through Salsipuedes, the visitor will reach El Manzano 40 kilometres away from Córdoba. At this locality a left turn must be taken through a dirt road in fair conditions. Ten kilometres ahead through this road will take us to Candonga. During rainy days this dirt road has to be driven with care. There are some sheer precipices along this way. There is a toll booth 500 metres ahead the airport.
