CORDOBA
DEAN FUNES
Dean Funes is the most important urban centre at the north of Córdoba and head-town of the Ischilín Department. It is situated in the Valley called Dean Funes - Sarmiento, which extends in a south to north direction from the meeting point of the National Routes 60 and 9 to the proximities of the Salinas Grandes. It is framed at the east by the skirts of the Sierras del Sauce Punco and Quilino; and to the west by the gentle mountain slopes of the Ischilín and La Higuerita Ridges.
This City is the opening of a circuit which will guide us to other interesting points as Tulumba, Cerro Colorado and Ischilín. Inside its perimeter there are several sites to visit, as are the Palacio Municipal "9 de Marzo", a French styled casona which was built during the early 20th century; the Nuestra Señora del Carmen Cathedral with its modern design; the Sarmiento and the San Martín Squares, the latter of which has a small stage; the Paseo de la Vieja Estación Boulevard; the Gallery of Art and the Casona de la Cultura.
The building of the Museum of Archaeology and Palaeontology, constructed at the early 20th century, stands on a lot at the outskirts of the Town and contains a valuable collection of archaeological and pre-historic objects, among which stands out the fossil of a 70 thousand year old glyptodont.
The Municipal Beach Resort Luis Sivillotti takes up four hectares inside the grounds of the City itself, with a large swimming pool which is continuously being filled and cleansed by the flowing waters of a stream, alongside the shadows of some aged aguribay trees.
How to Come
Over the National Route N° 9 from the City of Córdoba on a northward direction to Jesús María for about 49 kilometres, then still northwards for another 22 kilometres until reaching the crossroads with National Route N° 60, turning left at this point and continuing for 26 more kilometres.
