This location stands out for a capricious mushroom-shaped boulder situated one kilometre ahead by the road of the second powerhouse.
Iglesia de El Quebracho - Church
It is one of the oldest temples of the region. Its construction goes back to the year of 1896. It is situated 5 kilometres to the south of Embalse, coming by Route 5 and the detour to Los Condores. When reaching the crossroads with route 36 to Rio IV, some few metres ahead you must turn to the right and take another road for another 500 metres until finally reaching the Church of the Virgen del Rosario.
Piedras Moras Reservoir
This reservoir, with its 830 surface hectares, constitutes the final stage of the Rio Tercero (Ctalamochita) hydro-system. There are several other beautiful localities, though smaller, located at the southern edges of this water mirror, which will be eager to welcome the tourist. This is the case of La Cruz and its attractive resort, and Villa Quilinzo, Villa La Rivera and Villa El Tala.
Grotto of San Martín de Porres
It is located at the top of the hill where lays the neighbourhood of Casitas, developed over the artificial hillock that resulted from the making of the reservoir.
Monolith
This huge 30 metre-high structure made of concrete and lined in white marble, stands guard at the entrance of the city. It was erected on behalf of minister Juan Pistarini, as recognition for his contribution to the region.
El Embalse
(1927-1936) - A project of engineer Fitz Simon.
This was the first of its kind constructed in Calamuchita and the largest artificial lake in all of the province of Cordoba.
It is the largest reservoir of the province, with an extension of 5,600 hectares, a water volume of 735 cubic metres and a maximum level of 50 metres. Several water-sports can be practised on this lake, which is fed by the rivers of Santa Rosa, Grande, Amboy, Quillinzo and La Cruz. Around this reservoir, and over its many kilometres of shores, stand several localities, shaping another great compound for the development of tourist activities in Calamuchita, some of which are Villa Ruimpal, Villa del Dique and Embalse. A lot of excursions can be made from these cities, including off-road tours.
The Nuclear Plant stands at its shores, being the second one to be built in the Country.
Few kilometres away from this plant lays a smaller reservoir and the Second Power-Plant, named Ingeniero Carlos Cassafousth. At some distance from this point are located the reservoirs of Cerro Pelado and Arroyo Corto, which serve to the same purpose.
Embalse Nuclear Power Plant
Only two kilometres stand between the compound of Hotels and this nuclear plant situated over the reservoir (Embalse) of the Tercero River at the Province of Almafuerte. This plant produces between 7 and 10 per cent of the total power demand of the Country (some 648,000 Kilowatts), which amounts to the National Interconnected Network (the SIN for its abbreviation in Spanish), such electric power is distributed between the North-eastern Region, Cuyo, Rosario and Buenos Aires.
Embalse doubles up the capacity of the power plant Atucha 1. It is the only nuclear plant that produces cobalt's isotope 60 in Latin America. It supplies for the entire national production and exports the surplus to other countries. This element is used as sources of industrial radiation as well as for medical appliances.
The tour consists on a walk around the facilities of the plant including technical assistance and video screening. Visitors under 14 years old can only take this tour as part of a group, although they are not allowed to come down to the plant.
