The main festivity of the Town is due on July 16th in honour of the Town's Patroness, the Virgen del Carmen.
WHAT TO VISIT
The Church
It was constructed by Doctor Lage Weskamp, married to a daughter of Don Alfredo Olmos, who finished it in 1935, in retribution to the place whose climate enabled the healing of his niece. Its bell, brought from Germany, was donated by Manuel Soler in 1916. Around these times, the Church was trusted to the Capuchine Order from the locality of La Cumbre. In 1927 Don Alfredo Olmos ordered the building of the towers and a cast iron cross was located at its top after Basque workers completed its ceiling.
The Road of the Dragon
It runs at the foot of the sierras, with its winding paths and constant viewing of the beautiful valley which, in ancient times, served as passage to a now gone millenary tree trunk whose shape resembled a dragon. This place is the natural viewing point of the central area of the La Punilla Valley.
Cascada de los Olmos - Waterfall
This is a paradisiacal place encrusted in the midst of the Sierras Chicas, from where the Town obtains its source of potable water. It is situated at an altitude of 1.107 m.a.s.l.
Granja Orgánica El Gozante - Organic Produce Farm
It is located in Casilda, between San Francisco and San Martín.
Estancia La Berna - Ranch
It is an agricultural establishment whose origins date back to 1894. It was the proprierty of the former Swiss Consul Johann Kurth who, besides his title of chairman of the Sociedad Anónima El Edén, was in charge of the administration of the El Edén Hotel in La Falda Town. This place, nowadays a private estate, preserves some of the machinery used to make wine in the colonial times, and a section of the aqueduct that channelled the water from the streams of the Cascada de los Olmos Waterfall.
Jardín Botánico " Dr. Miguel Culaciati" - Botanical Garden
This is a ranch where the visitor will be able to watch exemplars of cypresses, tuyas, pines, cedar, ilex, palm, olive and pitas trees, along with other species of plants from which the indigenes obtained the substances to make their cures and medicinal recipes.
Its facilities are located in the estate acquired in the year of 1929 by Dr. Miguel J. Culaciati. The lot was transformed into a Private Botanical Garden -the first of its kind in the Country- in 1989. The lot has an extension of 24,000 square metres and presently contains more than 200 filed species and another hundred still under research. The main house is the present seat of the Fundación Botánica Conservacionista Argentina. It contains a consulting library, a nursery, an stereoscopic magnifying glass donated by the Soth African Government and a collection of mineral fossils.
It is situated at the corner of San Martín Avenue with Islas Malvinas.
Iglesia Nuestra Señora del Carmen - Church
This Church was donated by the physician Lage Weskamp, in retribution to Virgin Mary for the healing of her niece from the lung disease she had been diagnosed with.
The Church was erected under the avocation of Nuestra Señora del Carmen and built in a period of 20 years. Its bell was brought from Germany in 1916 by Manuel Soler. Around those years the church fell into the hands of the Capuccines Order, already at work in La Cumbre, performing tasks such as cult and temple care taking.
The belfry towers and the making of the cast iron cross that presides the whole structure were done in 1927, were commended by Alfredo Olmos. By 1929 the area destined to the Temple was fully accomplished, and between 1935 and 1936 the construction was duefully ended with the building of the parochial house.
