WHAT TO VISIT

Sanatorium of Santa Maria
It was the first installation for the treatment of tuberculosis in Latin America, which began to be forged with the arrival of Doctor Antonio Cetrángolo, who had specialised on the disease, in 1916. Already in 1925 Felix Garzón Maceda, in his book "Medicine in Cordoba", highlighted the quality of the air in the zone for the cure of tuberculosis based on the studies of an English doctor.
A small zigzagging train that worked between 1918 and 1929 transporting goods used to use the Santa Maria Bridge, which is currently used to access the sanatorium.

Barrio Neighbourhood of Tillard
It bears the name of the builder of the Sanatorium of Santa Maria's enlargements, which began in August of 1914. Engineer Enrique Tillard had two large properties in the area that he used as workshops.

Town of Caeiro
Its name is derived from a Mr Caeiro, a Spanish trader who owned a large property in the zone and had a bridge built over the river to connect his property with the existing road. The post and the local hospital are named after Domingo Funes due to a resolution dictated by the executor of the will and testament of Mrs Susana Funes de Pizarro Lastra, who donated a large sum of money to build a health establishment for women suffering from tuberculosis, with the express condition that it would bear her name. The executor, clerk Don Jacinto Fernandez, determined to name it after the father of the true hospital's benefactor.

Mill of the Rosary of Punilla
It was the first watermill in the area, and it is a vestige of the Rosary Hacienda more than 400 years old, which was first cited in documents going back to the year 1598. It was built to supply water to the sierra region of Cordoba and the outskirts of the capital City. It is currently the seat of the House of Culture and Tourism and Cultural Patrimony of the Province. It is a place worth visiting that keeps its original features intact.

Rosary of Punilla's Hacienda House and Old Mill
This is the oldest and main construction still existing of the old settlement of La Merced from 1585, which belonged to political boss and also governor of Cordoba, General Juan Bautista Bustos, a fighter for the independence of our country. You can find a great number of historical testimonies regarding the history of the Rosary and Cosquín Hacienda, which nowadays is part of the locality of Santa Maria, at these two buildings. It is a Cultural Patrimony of the Province that can be accessed coming along Juan B. Busto Street westbound. The old mill is located on the terrain standing between 20 de Junio and 9 de Julio Streets.

Chapel of San Roque (Town of Bustos)
This temple is also amongst the oldest ones in the region though there was a previous one built in the XVII century by Mr Salguero de Cabrera on his land. Lucas de Cabanillas bought the land when Cabrera died and when he also passed away he was buried inside the chapel, which was flooded by the waters of the current San Roque Lake. In the year 1887 Lucas de Cabanillas' daughter donated a parcel for the construction of a new chapel commissioned to Juan T. Moyano, who finished it in 1899. A Catholic School was built adjacent to the chapel years later, and eventually the Congregation of the Carmelites of Santa Teresa established itself in there and founded the San Roque School

Dike Engineer Cassaffousth
This construction was built between 1883 and 1884 to dam up the waters of a stream on the slopes of the sierra, on land belonging to the old sanatorium, between the hospital and the Town of Tillard. It was part of a project designed to organise an irrigation system for a vineyard started for exportation purposes, mainly to Europe, that did not work well due to diverse factors. The dike had a straight layout neatly finished 112 metres long, two metres wide on the top, and 13 metres high in the middle of the dam, all of this complemented with a superb irrigation system.
