CORDOBA
LOS HORNILLOS
Los Hornillos enjoys an enviable microclimate resulting of the protection provided by the Champaquí Hill, accompanied by the gladdening sound of the streams and the greenness of the trees.
The setting is an open invitation to practice mountaineering and to go on horseback rides, while a cooling mantle satiates the tiredness of the intrepid visitors.
A limited though welcoming lodging infrastructure is represented by a handful of inns of European style and a few houses for rent in the surroundings.
The best presentation card of this tranquil sierra land is the chance of enjoying a relaxing tourism shaded with adventure and an ecological edge, which is highlighted in the evenings with the singing of the frogs, coyuyos or a kind of cricket and whatever bird you can imagine.
And if this is not enough, streams of crystalline waters and a generous sunshine over the valley will do the rest.
Horseback rides
Short ride
It lasts an hour and a half and it is the easiest one, especially for inexperienced families with little children. You will be taken on a horse along the Streams of Los Hornillos and Hondo, to then climb a mild slope that will take you to the highest point in the circuit, from where you will be able to watch the sierras in all their splendour.

Riding to Saladero
This ride has a four-hour duration and demands a little more skill on handling horses. It starts at Los Hornillos Stream and passes by some posts before reaching the Slope of the Fig, a tree that gave shadow to a farmhouse that the years and the storms levelled and bankrupted while the tree remains stoically in the same place, in contact with the earth and still offering us its fruits.
To Champaquí
This two-day ride reaching the highest peak in the Sierras Grandes of Cordoba begins at Los Hornillos, then ascends along the Slope of Totora until reaching the edge, as close to the summit as possible. From there you have to take a short walk to the summit, from where you get a clear 360-degree panoramic view stretching from Traslasierra Valley and the La Viña Dam to the west, to the Embalse and Los Molinos Dams, in the Valley of Calamuchita to the east. You spend the night at a post with the guides and the next day you return to Los Hornillos.
