CORDOBA
ROAD TO THE HIGH SUMMITS
It is formed by two access roads, one of dirt and one asphalted, which link the Valleys of Traslasierra and Punilla. It has one of the first high mountain hotels in Argentina. It is also the site of the ecological reserve of the Quebrada del Condorito National Park.
The spectacular landscape of the high summits proposes basically a vehicular tour, with permanent preferential seats for extensive panoramic views and countless hidden corners, which invite to the adventure of discovering them.
This work begun to be built in the 1960s and its finalisation in recent years has allowed to connect in a more agile way, the Valley of Traslasierra with the other regions of the Province of Cordoba; becoming besides an important means of communication with other Argentine provinces. Its layout is sinuous for being a mountain road, therefore you need to drive carefully, and take into account the following: the usual presence of fog, that downpours and snowfalls worsen driving conditions, and to avoid excessively increasing your speed on steep slopes.
We start at the junction of Provincial Routes Nº 180 and 14, coming from the east towards Traslasierra, then continue climbing until reaching El Cruce (The Crossroad): from here we can follow the road to the high summits or take the dirt road on the right, known as the Road of the Hanging Bridges, which passes by Copina and ends at El Condor. This section is usually in bad conditions and unsuitable for a conventional car.
Continuing our ascension up to Traslasierra, we cross the River of La Suela where there is an inn and the worksite of a new connection route. Further ahead we reach the place called La Pampilla, where the entrance to the Quebrada de Condorito National Park is. The roadblock is usually in place so we have to take a roughly two-kilometre walk up to the post of the park rangers. A several-hour drive is required to reach the balconies of the ravine from this place.

Returning to the road to the high summits, the higher we climb the better we can appreciate the Lakes of San Roque and Los Molinos, the Observatory of Bosque Alegre and enjoy magnificent panoramic vistas.
Continuing our trip and after going by different telephonic repeaters and access roads to a few mountain schools, such as that of Padre Liqueño, we find welcoming La Posta Hotel, located one kilometre north of the road. Visitors will be able to practice innumerable alternatives related to adventure tourism from this place.
Progressing along the road we arrive in the place called Giulio Cesare, from where the old dirt road bound for Traslasierra starts. This road is practically unsurpassable for small vehicles up to Villa Benegas at this time. Leaving Giulio Cesare and Pampa de Achala behind we find a natural balcony, from where visitors will be able to appreciate the entire magnitude of the Valley of Traslasierra, with the dam of La Viña more to the south and Pampa del Pocho and its volcanoes to the north.
The source of the Mina Clavero River is located at the beginning of the descent towards the Valley of Traslasierra, with businesses offering regional articles and the traditional black pottery.
We reach the locality of Mina Clavero after completing the descent.
ATTRACTIONS
LA PAMPILLA
It is the starting point to enter the Quebrada del Condorito National Park through the shortest road.
QUEBRADA DEL CONDORITO
The Quebrada del Condorito National Park is a huge ravine with a V shape, almost 800 metres deep with 1500 metres between its walls, which is cleaved by the Condorito River. Its rather reduced extension and secluded geographic location make of it a true ecological island, with unique animal species in the region, such as the condor and the red fox, and plant species such as the Ground Cherry (Physalis virginiana). You can only visit the place in the company of a guide and following to the letter their recommendations in order to prevent accidents and the deterioration of the environment.
EL CONDOR
It is the second hotel built in 1939 alongside the old dirt road to the high summits. Nowadays it is closed although there is a well provided inn with a gas station that marks a traditional stage on the route.
LA POSTA
It is an old inn for caravans on their way towards Cordoba. Later, in 1915, it was the first high mountain hotel in the region. Today it is restored and refurbished and has the proper infrastructure for the organized practice of adventure tourism.
VILLA GIULIO CESARE
It is a small hamlet that marks the junction with the old road descending towards Mina Clavero through the Road of the Artisans.
SOURCE OF THE RIVER MINA CLAVERO
There is a trail leading to a natural balcony with a spectacular panoramic view of the beautiful cascade where this river rises from. The fame of this river's waters is centenarian, and they were taken on mule backs up to Cordoba in ancient times, due to the therapeutic benefits they are attributed with. They have been compared to those at the thermal resort of Evian, in France.
RIO DE LOS SAUCES
It is a small hamlet marking the gathering point for the aficionados to the practice of paragliding. There is a platform for takeoffs a short distance away that also leads downwards up to the Bath of the Gods.
TURTLE STONE
It is a curious rock formation that gives its name to the place.
BATH OF THE GODS
It is a natural resort on the Mina Clavero River.
NIÑA PAULA
It is another beautiful natural resort washed by the crystalline waters of the Mina Clavero River.
CAÑADA LARGA
It is an old place with important archaeological sites.
LOS GIGANTES
It is an important rock massif 2374 metres high that stands out north of Pampa de Achala. It is ideal for the practice of trekking and rock scaling.
POCHO
It is an old settlement pierced in Pampa de Pocho. It has a chapel dating back to 1766 with a square belfry and a masonry altar. It keeps two old images, being one of them that of a precious wooden Crucified Christ. The Pocho Lagoon is nearby surrounded by a strange setting. It is said that its salty waters have healing properties.
LAS PALMAS
It is an old hamlet with a chapel built between 1689 and 1736, and refurbished in the mid XVIII century. Made of crude adobe and simple features, it was on the other hand rich in images and ornaments, keeping currently that of its Patron, Our Lady of the Rosary.
