CORDOBA

SAN CARLOS MINAS

San Carlos Minas is part of the Tourist Area of the Northeast of the Cordoba Province. Its location extends from the western slope of the Cumbres de Gaspar to the eastern skirts of the Sierras of Guasapampa, along the Provincial Route N° 15, which connects Cruz del Eje with Cura Brochero Village (65 kilometres away from Cruz del Eje and 220 kilometres from the City of Cordoba)

It limits to the North with Mesa de Mariano, in the Department of Cruz del Eje, to the South with Toro Muerto in the Department of Pocho, to the West with Tres Lomas in the Department of Minas and to the East with the Departments of Cruz del Eje and Pocho.

This locality is the Head City of the Department of Minas, its soil is mainly composed of rocks and, since 1992, after the landslide that befell in that same year, water defences were built by means of channelling off the waters of the Noguinet Stream, in order to prevent any further flooding. San Carlos Minas offers an ample range of lodging facilities, as inns and hostelries, as well as colonies and camp sites.

Starting from San Carlos Minas it is also possible to visit the Yerba Buena Mountain for practising some mountaineering over this extinct volcano at 1.713 m.a.s.l., located in the Sierra de Pocho and edged on its northern side by the homonymous stream; the Poca Mountain with its 1.697 m.a.s.l. of volcanic origins and the Velis Mountain also of volcanic origins.

In its surroundings runs both the Jaime River and the Noguinet Stream from the Pichanas basin. At approximately 60 kilometres from San Carlos Minas we find the La Playa Town, and at 5 kilometres we find Charquina, with its caves and outcroppings with petro-glyphs and pictographs of indigenous origins.

The weather here is mild and warm, with a dry Winter season and an average yearly temperature of 17,2°C.
