The lodge attains a harmonic relation between the landscape and the warmth that characterizes its rustic architecture. The wood that covers the lodge comes from woods of cypresses – authorized by the forest management of the zone of Neuquén – which mimicries it with the surroundings without harming nature.

From all its large windows we can appreciate the immensity of the Moreno Glacier and the exuberant nature that surrounds it. It has laundry service, bilingual staff, and briefings on glaciology, flora and fauna.

Visit to the Perito Moreno Glacier

We depart from the lodge in our vehicle and arrive in the vantage point in front of the Perito Moreno Glacier. The place is conformed by seven balconies at different heights and at distances from the glacier, connected by stepped catwalks that allow going on tours of different durations and levels of difficulty. From the highest balcony we can watch a large part of the glacier’s surface, its northern and southern faces. Descending a bit we find the second balcony, closer to the ice. The dike of ice forms in this place in occasions. The closest spot to the glacier is the lower balcony, at seven hundred meters from the parking lot. We return to the lodge in one of our vehicles.
Alternative: The balconies are only 7 km away from the lodge. We can cover the distance by foot on a roundtrip. The hike takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes time.
Schedule: In the morning and in the afternoon.

Minitrekking

It is not recommendable for either pregnant women or people with walking difficulties, heart, respiratory or motor problems. Restrictions: Due to dispositions given by the receptive firm, it should not be offered to minors less than 10 and to elders over 60 years of age. Description: Departure on boat from the Port of Bajo de las Sombras, located 1 km away from the lodge, and disembark on the opposite coast of the Brazo Rico. We take a short hike through the woods up to the border of the glacier, where the travelers put on their crampons.
We go on a walk for about an hour and a half over the ice with specialized guides. Lunch at the refuge (goods supplied by the lodge) and return by boat passing very close to the southern face of the Perito Moreno Glacier to watch possible detaches. Observations: You can make changes and cancellations up to the 17:00 hours of the previous day. The afternoon shifts do not carry lunch. It is advisable to bring shades, gloves, sports footwear, sunscreen and warm clothes. Schedule: The staff at the reception desk confirms the schedule assigned by the operator the previous afternoon. Time of transfer: 15 minutes per leg.

Pathway of the coast

It is a narrow pathway with some steep uphill climbs and legs going over rocks. It is not recommendable for children too young and for older people, or for people having troubles walking. Transfer from the lodge on our vehicles up to the Moreno Section of the National Parks. The pathway borders the Canal of the Icebergs, climbs through the coast and runs across the woods. We reach different natural vantage points from where we can see the northern face of the glacier and its proximity to the peninsula. The final destination is the catwalks. Observations: The tour must be taken with a qualified guide or a representative from the National Park. The pathway does not operate on rainy days. Schedule: In the morning or in the afternoon. To be confirmed at the reception desk. Time of transfer: 15 minutes per leg.

Big-ice

This proposal is for people over 18 and less than 45 years of age in pretty good shape. Excursion to the center of the glacier. Departure from the lodge’s reception desk. Embarking at the Port of Bajo de las Sombras. Disembark on the opposite coast of the Brazo Rico. Trekking of about 3 kilometers approx. through the woods and descend upon the glacier through the moraine. Once at the glacier, each guest will fix their crampons and go for a hike over the ice among blue lagoons, deep cracks, drains and caves. We have lunch at the glacier. Meal included. On the way back the boat approaches the southern face of the Perito Moreno Glacier to watch possible detaches. It is indispensable to bring shades, gloves, tall trekking footwear, sunscreen and impermeable clothes.
