IGUAZU
ATTRACTIONS
Puerto Iguazu is a place to expect surprises. Surrounded by the dense Misiones rainforest, this is the region of great rivers, sweltering tropical weather, red soil and the virgin forest, full of giant trees. Topographically, it is located in a plateau-like sub-region with intensely red soil, resulting from the decomposition of iron-rich rocks. However, the
edges of the cliffs are covered with humus, which encourages the growth of the exuberant Misiones vegetation.
To get to this charming city and some of the most entrancing scenery in South America, a good option is to travel by air, since Iguazu International Airport is only 17 km from the city center. It is located in the northeast of Argentina, to the north of the province of Misiones. The borders with Brazil and Paraguay are marked by the confluence of the rivers Parana and Iguazu, and it is linked to them by means of the Tancredo Neves International Bridge. This means that the Iguazu area includes the Iguazu International Tourism Zone, with its three cities:
Puerto Iguazu, in Argentina.
Foz do Iguaçu, in Brazil.
Ciudad del Este, in Paraguay.
For this reason, Iguazu as a destination should be considered as a whole, since the three cities offer different resources that complement each other, making this Zone one complete tourist complex.
Puerto Iguazu is a typical frontier region, with people moving through it in the directions encouraged by the current rates of exchange. Its great tourism infrastructure has enabled it to become the fourth largest city in the Province in terms of population.
