MUSEUMS IN SAN PEDRO
The Pablo Baldwin Museum of History, Archaeology and Arts.
In its two exhibition halls you will find archaeological pieces, antique furniture, objects and photographs that describe the life of the local people from the late 1700s till modern times. In the archaeology room you will find ceramic pieces of the San Francisco culture, tools, pipes and ritual masks.

MUSEUMS IN SANTA CATALINA
The Epifanio Saravia Regional Museum
Fortunato Farfán, its creator and first director, inaugurated it in January 1990. The museum occupies the oldest building in the village, dating back to the 1650s.
The walls are of adobe bricks and the roofing of straw and mud. It belonged to the chief of police and political commissioner of Santa Catalina, commander in chief of the troops stationed in the Puna highlands, don Laureano Saravia.
Inside you will find archaeological and ethnographic pieces, historical documents from colonial times, and folklore artefacts and objects. There are also many stone objects. You will also find Gaucho clothing made out of the local coarse wool, silver coins and religious objects such as rosaries, catechisms, prayer books and scapulars.

MUSEUMS IN TILCARA
The Medardo Pantoja Foundation Museum
As with so many other local museums this one originated with the works of art left behind by Medardo Pantoja, the favourite son of Tilcara. This artist is one of the most representative of Latin-American painters. In his works you will always see reflected the landscape, the local people and the customs of Argentina. His perfected his studies in Buenos Aires under the direction of the master Lino Enea Spilimbergo. The Foundation that harbours the museum is also a cultural centre, which carries out exhibits, courses, workshops and audiovisual screenings.

The Dr. Eduardo Casanova Museum of Archaeology.
It was created in honour of the person that restarted the restoration project of Pucará de Tilcara in 1948, restoring with the help of his collaborators the home that can be found there today.
The museum is part of the Interdisciplinary Institute of Tilcara, a dependency of the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature of the University of Buenos Aires. You will find objects representative of the pre-Columbian cultures of the Andean area: Tiahuanaco (Bolivia) and the Diaguita Cultures. On display there is a mummy in an excellent state of conservation, complete with its hair, eyelashes, nails, clothing and buckles.
You will also find on display object pertaining to the Inca times, which occupied a sector of northeastern Argentina between the years 1480 to 1520. There is a reproduction of one of the tombs found during the archaeological rescue carried out within the urban perimeter of Tilcara.

The José Antonio Terry Regional Museum of Arts.
Here you will find paintings by local artists. It has eight rooms that exhibit the work of José A. Terry and other Argentinean painters related to the customs and traditions of the people of Tilcara. It is located in the house of the artist, a building dating back to 1880.

"El Pucará de Tilcara" (Site Museum)
Ruins belonging to the most important pre Hispanic peoples in the Gorge of Humahuaca. It is a dependency of the Dr. Eduardo Casanova Museum of Archaeology. Of the whole chain of fortified strategically placed villages, Pucaras, one has been partly restored. From it you will be able to observe from above the whole access route to the Gorge.
This Pucará is located on top of a 70 metre high hill, at the foot of which today you will find the so called High Altitude Botanical Garden, where you will find characteristic plants of the Puna Highland and the Gorge. For further information on the way of life and customs of these pre Hispanic people and of their life in the village, the best place for this is to pay a visit the archaeological museum in Tilcara.

The Hermitage Museum
This original museum exhibits religious pieces and allegories made out of flower petals and seeds from different fruit plants. These are used for allegorical scenes depicting Jesus and the Way to the Cross - the Vía Crucis.

The Alfredo Yacussi Museum of Sculpture.
As in so many other museums in the area, this one also originated with the collection of works and sculptures by the sculptor Alfredo Yacussi. It occupies what used to be his home and atelier, and here you will not only find works by this artist but also many done by other local artists.

The Ernesto Soto Avendaño Museum of Sculpture
Its five rooms are a remembrance of the life and works of the sculptor that is the author of the Monument to Independence - Monumento a la Independencia in Humahuaca, and which has become a living image of this locality. Here you will find 42 originals done in plaster of his creative work. Amongst these you will find Tiredness -"Cansancio", Pain - "La Pena" and Work -"Trabajo", as well as a model showing the Monument to Independence in Humahuaca on a scale of 1/ 10.

The Museum of Fine Arts Foundation Hugo Irureta
The Hugo Irureta Foundation started up its activities in 1987 and, at the same time created the museum with the works of Irureta himself as well as other Regional, National and International artists and painters such as Libero Badii, Carlos Cañás, Ricardo Carpani, Luis Centurión, Enrique de Larrañaga, Luis Felipe Noé, Leopoldo Presas and Leo Vinci. The aim of the museum is to promote art and culture in the northeastern part of Argentina.
The museum has five rooms totalling 220 square metres under and 150 works in a permanent exhibition. More than 3000 people visit it every year. Its exhibition areas are open to artists from Jujuy, Salta, La Rioja, and Buenos Aires, who exhibit their paintings, ceramics and other sculptures in temporary shows and also and facilitate works belonging to the Foundation to be exhibited in other cities.

The Takashi Takahashi Museum
It opened its doors in 1999. It is located within what was the home of the Japanese artist Takashi Takahashi, who was one of the creators of the Chucalezna School of Children Painters - "Los niños pintores de la Escuela de Chucalezna. The artist had also made many copies of cave paintings and left his house in custody with all his works in it for it to become a museum.

MUSEUMS IN YAVÍ
The Casa del Marqués History and Archaeology Museum.
In the year 1690 the magnificent Church consecrated to San Francisco was finished and it still is kept as it was originally built. Facing it is the Family Mansion of the Marquis of Tojo and Yavi. In it you will find the belongings of this once very powerful family. Amongst these there are two early editions of Don Quixote, one from 1608 and the other from 1615.

The Antigal Museum
The area of Yavi Chico, 15 kilometres from Yavi, is full of archaeological sites. It is believed to have been inhabited as long ago as 2000 years. In this museum you will find many testimonies of the life of the people that first settled this Region and the various cultures that succeeded them. Here you will find artefacts excavated in Antigal, located only twenty minutes by car from the village.
