REGIONAL CLIMATIC DIVERSITY
In the northeast, including the province's sierras, the mild sierra weather prevails: dry and hot with scarce rain during the southern hemisphere's summer, and not that cold and almost rainless during the winter; however, the area gets b winds from the northeast, east and southwest, especially during the summer.
Rains are scarce over the southeastern fringe as well. With this, a long rainless winter season, with remarkable temperature variations regarding the summer, is defined.
The arid features are related to those of a mild weather, which, towards the west, become more uniform and therefore plain.
The scarce rainfalls are determined by the presence of the Monte Occidental Mountain, in the northeastern part of the Province. The average rainfall in the area varies between 300 and 700 mm per year.
The intense negative ionisation of the air, at between 800 and 1200 metres above sea level, characteristic of the Merlo locality sitting at the skirts of the Comechingones Sierra, is an outstanding microclimatic singularity.
It is a stimulating microclimate. During the November through March season, the average temperature is of between 20º C and 26º C, and humidity ranges between 52% and 60%.
