SANTA FE

USEFUL INFORMATION

BACK TO ARGENTINA TRAVEL GUIDE

CLIMATE
The province of Santa Fe, up to the level of the Salado Norte River, belongs to the Pampas region, featuring a mild climate and a fertile prairie grassland type soil. The northern part of the province belongs to the Chaco region, a wooded tropical plain.
The whole of the province is markedly influenced by the Parana River, giving its climate Mediterranean features. In summer, the area is invaded by a mass of hot, humid tropical air with constant hot northerly winds, while in winter the region is overrun by a mass of cold polar air that produces frosts. The average annual temperature ranges between 17º and 21ºCelsius.

WHAT TO PACK
It is a good idea to take along light clothing for the daytime and some jackets and sweaters for the usually cooler mornings and evenings.
The time of year of your visit should be considered, especially if you are coming in spring or summer, in which case you should wear comfortable shoes, summer clothing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, taking along sunscreen, insect repellent and a camera, and making sure you avoid taking sun around midday.
If you plan to do any horse riding we recommend: long and roomy trousers, a long-sleeved shirt and a waterproof anorak, as well as rubber boots and a cap.

HEALTH
There are no endemic diseases here, due to which no special vaccines are necessary for entry.
Argentina is free of foot and mouth disease, making beef consumption risk-free.
Our country has a large network of hospitals, clinics and sanitary posts countrywide, most of them having an emergency service. In the main cities, the hospitals can treat high-complexity cases, while in remote villages the services are of a basic nature.

WATER
All Argentine cities have drinking water treatment plants. However, to avoid any possible inconvenience, it is a good idea to drink bottled water, especially when visiting the more remote attractions.

TRADITIONAL GASTRONOMY
Argentine cuisine offers visitors the chance of sampling typical dishes, such as a good "saskta" (a dish only known in Santa Fe province), as well as gallina al barro (mud-baked chicken). Ambrosia is another ideal dish for those with a sweet tooth. The local restaurants, known as "parrillas" (steak houses), offer a range of options to sample typical local barbecued meats, as well as dishes from all international ethnic origins, and the characteristic dishes from other parts of our country. Besides, what visitor to Santa Fe has never tried the fabulous local alfajores (sweet soft biscuits with a cream or jam filling)? These are special gift items to take back with you.

IMPORTANT
We reserve the right to make changes to the order of the trip, without prior notice, due to changes in climate conditions, river water levels, flight or bus arrival and departure times or any other reason relevant to the best development of the trip.
